WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO & WHOM WE SERVE
The Met-L-Chek Company was incorporated in 1952 by Loy W. Sockman, the holder of the first USA visible dye
penetrant patent. Since its beginning, Met-L-Chek® personnel have always been heavily involved in advancing
penetrant inspection technology and in the writing of specifications dealing with the manufacture and proper use
of the inspection materials. From Loy Sockman's participation in development of the first version of MIL-I-25135
to work by Bill Mooz in creation of AMS-2644, to participation by Mike White in the creation and maintenance of
ASTM E-1417, Met-L-Chek® has been present.
William Mooz, president of Met-L-Chek®, has a metallurgy degree from MIT, holds several patents, and is a
licensed professional engineer in California. Bill began his NDT career under Werner von Braun at the Redstone
Arsenal. Bill has made countless presentations to technical and governmental bodies; including the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, NATO, and the World Congress of NDT. Bill has authored over 100 technical articles and books.
Michael White, general manager of Met-L-Chek®, has an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Business.
He spent 24 years with Magnaflux® formulating and marketing NDT materials, and several years with Brent
America (Ardrox®) managing NDT in North America. Mike holds a patent in NDT, has given numerous talks, and
taught penetrant classes around the world.
Both Bill and Mike are ASNT Fellows, have been chairmen of the ASNT penetrant methods technical committee,
are members of SAE/AMS Committee K, and ASTM Committee E-7. Bill was the errata editor of edition two of
the ASNT Penetrant Handbook, and Bill and Mike are principle contributors to edition 3 as authors and reviewers.
Met-L-Chek® provides technical insight and information sharing, through its popular, free, newsletter "The
Penetrant Professor". Met-L-Chek® provides its customers with technical expertise.
Met-L-Chek® is a highly focused manufacturer of NDT consumables. This includes visible and fluorescent
penetrants, fluorescent magnetic particles, fluorescent filtered particles (inspection of ceramics), and pre and post
inspection cleaning materials. Met-L-Chek® recertifies in-use materials through its Pen-Chek® and Mag-Chek
service programs. Met-L-Chek customers expect and receive service.
Met-L-Chek ®products meet or exceed all relevant military, civilian, and corporate specifications, and several
Met-L-Chek® products are the qualification standards for AMS-2644 against which candidate materials are
compared. Met-L-Chek® provides its customers with reliable, consistent, quality certified inspection materials.
Met-L-Chek® users are found around the world. They include the U. S. Air Force, casting, forging, and foundry
shops in Asia and South America, aircraft manufacturers in Asia, Europe and the USA, aircraft engine overhaul
shops in Asia and the Middle East, nuclear power plants; oil refineries, ice cream and pharmaceutical manufacturers,
etc. Any place where quality and integrity of metal parts is important, Met-L-Chek® can be found. Met-L-Chek®
products are available through a global network of distributors. Met-L-Chek® products are manufactured in Santa
Monica, California, USA; and under license in Europe,by NDT Europa in the Netherlands.
